Comparative Essay - Hunchback vs Frankenstein
|
Does anyone really know what makes a monster? And if so, what characteristics do they behold? In comparing these two legendary monsters created through wonderful literature, it’s fairly easy to tell. These two monsters are Quasimodo, the deformed man from Victor Hugo’s novel “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame“, and the monster created by Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s novel “Frankenstein”. The differences between man and creation, love and hate, and the similarities between appearances are discussed below. Specifically, the arguments compare the differences in appearance, the similarities in social status/treatment by others, and finally the differences in how the two are motivated by such treatment and isolation within society.
