Johann Sebastien Bach
|
Johann Sebastien Bach was one of the greatest composers in Western musical history. Born in Eisenach, Germany, on March 21, 1685, he was the son of a very successful violinist, Johann Ambrosius Bach. Johann Sebastien Bach began to play the organ which later became the instrument that he would be noted for in history. Bach moved to Leipzig in the spring of 1723 to become kantor of St. Thomas . This was a huge step up in the musical and professional world for Bach in terms of salary; but it also allowed him to compose both sacred and secular music. Over 1000 of Bach’s compositions have survived since then, some of these including the Art of Fugue, Brandenburg Concerti, the Goldberg Variations, the motets, and the Easter and Christmas oratorio
