Animals such as bears, bats, woodchucks and other rodents do not live in environments that have an abundant amount of resources. They live in climates that can have a bountiful summer and spring full of plentiful amounts of food, and have harsh winters where food is very scarce. To survive through the winters, these animals go through an inactive state that enables them to survive without food for a period of time. This adaptation of hibernation allows them the benefit of not having to migrate every cold season to a better climate.
