The Declaration of Independence was written on July 4th, 1776 in Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania State House. This document separated all of the wars that occurred before it from the ones that would occur afterwards. The battles before The Declaration of Independence was signed were fought to bring down the taxes on the colonists, while the wars that occurred after it were to be fought for independence from Great Britain. The purpose of this document was to influence France and the public of the 13 colonies opinion on the matter of freedom. They wanted to influence France because the United States would need help from the French army in the war for independence.
