British Energy PLC is the United Kingdom's largest generator, producing one fifth of the Country's electricity, employing approximately 5200 staff in the UK. British Energy also currently has interests in nuclear generation in the United States of America, which is in the process of being sold.
The Company was privatized in 1996 and was listed on the London and New York Stock Exchanges, trading under the symbol BGY. Following privatization, British Energy expanded internationally. In 1997, it formed AmerGen, a US Joint Venture with PECO Energy of Philadelphia, now part of Exelon Corporation.
