Princess Sophia Augusta Frederika of Anhalt-Zerbst, later Catherine the Great of Russia was born on April 21, 1729 in Stettin, Prussian Kingdom. Her father was Prince Christian August of Anhalt-Zerbst. Her mother was a very strict person and grounded her daughter for anything she did wrong. Her parents weren’t happy in there marriage, therefore didn’t spent much time together. Her mother traveled a lot to her family and Sophia sometimes traveled with her. She didn’t receive much of an education. Sophia in her childhood visited Zerbst, Hamburg, Berlin and other cities.
