Gothic is about the opposite of the rational world.
During studying three novels for this essay, I came to my own conclusion on what a gothic novel usually consists of.
Firstly, some gothic elements usually involve a setting of a castle, or some sort of spooky territory. It usually has an atmosphere of mystery and suspense. This can show us the threatening feeling, a fear that is enhanced by the unknown. I found out that often the plot of the novel itself is built around a mystery, and so a spooky atmosphere around the surroundings contribute to the gothic feel.
