In 1954, William Golding published his novel “Lord of the Flies” discussing various themes, one of the most important of which is the theme of deterioration of man. Sixty-three years before this novel was published, Oscar Wilde discussed the same theme, though differently, in his novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Each one of the authors has his own point of view and approach to this theme. This paper will examine the differences between the approaches of the two authors.
