The Persian Gulf War or Gulf Wars were two conflicts involving Iraq and the US-led armed forces in the late 20th and early 21st century. The First Persian Gulf War, fought between January and February 1991, was an armed conflict between Iraq and an alliance of thirty two nations including the United States, Great Britain, Egypt, France, and Saudi Arabia. It was a result of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait on August 2nd, 1990; after which Iraq then annexed Kuwait, which it had long since claimed control over. Iraqi president Saddam Hussein declared that the invasion was a response to overproduction of oil in Kuwait, which had cost Iraq over $14 million dollars when oil prices fell.
