Acid Rain is rain, snow or fog that is polluted in the atmosphere and damages the environment. Two common air pollutants that acidify rain are Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. When these two substances are released in an atmosphere, they can be carried over long distances by prevailing winds before being returning to Earth as acidic rain, snow, fog or dust. When the environment cannot neutralize the acid vein deposited, damage occurs. A pH scale is used to measure the amount of acid in a liquid- like water. Because acids release hydrogen ions, the acid content of a solution is based upon the concentration oh hydrogen and is expressed “pH.”
As citizens, we can reduce the nitrogen emissions to reduce the amount of fossil fuels.
