In this paper I will be writing about the individual and state in Plato’s “Apology” and Crito” In the following sentences I will briefly explain what Plato was writing about in
“Apology and “Crito”. Socrates believed that it was an individual’s duty to be a good citizen. Obey all the laws and at all times and do what’s right for one’s state. In “Crito” Socrates speaks about doing what is right for the state, even though it meant he would be executed the day after the ship arrived. Crito came to visit Socrates in his cell and was trying to persuade him to escape and that no one would care if he did escape and left the country. But Socrates was against this thinking and explains it to Crito rendering him speechless at the end.
