Psycho begins with the camera drifting lazily from left to right across the skyline of Phoenix, Arizona. Here, the drifting of the camera, and the fact that it seems to go past the window of the room where Marion Crane and Sam Loomis are having their affair before returning to it, gives a powerful suggestion of randomness.
