Lord of the Flies: A Deeper View

In the novel Lord of the Flies, the character known as Jack went through some major psychological changes. These changes took place in three main stages. He was Jack the fearful, the hunter, and the savage.
At the start of the novel, Jack and the boys choir were elected the hunters. On their first hunt, Jack stumbled upon a trapped pig. He could not bring himself to kill it. “They knew very well why he hadn’t: because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood.” At this point of the story, Jack still had a conscience and it seemed wrong for him to kill, even if it was a pig.
