Life in the trenches, ha, it isn’t life at all. The British soldiers, destined for the Western Front landed at the French ports of Le Havre and Boulogne. The men were then transported to the main base camp just outside the French town of Etaples. As many as 100,000 soldiers are being housed at the camp. In the sand dunes at Etaples is the infamous Bull Ring training camp. Here attempts are made to prepare men for life in the trenches. The new soldiers also receive lectures on how to deal with problems such as lice, trench foot and poison gas.
