George Orwell

These things were so important to him that as a young writer he locked himself in a dreadful London bedroom thawing his hands over a candle when they became too numb to write. Known for making his strong opinions as clear as a sheet of glass, Orwell lived an interesting life. George Orwell was born Eric Arthur Blair on June 25, 1903 in Bengal, India. He would later adopt the Orwell pen name to shed his middle-class identity that he opposed, and become a classless anti-authoritarian. His father, Richard, was a civil servant in the opium department for the British government
