In recent years many breakthroughs in technology have helped to prolong lives, although sometimes more suffering may be inflicted upon people in the process. Some say the best remedy to this, is to legalize euthanasia (the mercy-killing of those who are in pain). However, euthanasia is not the appropriate solution to this problem. It would invoke great fear in those who are most susceptible to euthanasia, the elderly or disabled, who do not always get a say in whether they are euthanised. It could lead to the acceptance of non-voluntary euthanasia. As the practice continues it would lead to the
general social acceptance of mercy-killing, which compromises society’s morals.
