Understanding Magritte and his work
Rene Magritte is a well known artist for his surrealism in his paintings. Magritte was born in Lessines, Hainaut, better known as Belgium. In his teens he was going through a difficult time, his mother committed suicide. Her body was found in the Sambre River, in Belgium, apparently she drowned herself. After this tragedy, Magritte attended the Academie des Beaux- Arts in Brussels. During this time he met Georgette Berger, who he married later on.
