Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy” is a chronicling of Dante’s journeys through Hell, Purgatory, and finally Heaven. The series begins with Dante’s Inferno wherein Dante must travel through Hell itself in order to reach salvation; he is greeted by his guide, Virgil a Greek poet. Dante and Virgil then go through the nine circles of Hell.
It has been said that in Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”, Dante kept one foot in the middle ages, and one foot in the new thinking of the renaissance. With constant references to the medieval way of thinking and the neoclassic form of thought helps to show how Dante’s Inferno was one of the works that helped transition the world into the renaissance.
