A Comparison of the three Theoretical Paradigms

There are three theoretical paradigms in sociology. The first is the structural –functional paradigm. This paradigm sees society as an interconnected system. With in the system, there are several sub parts that, when working together, serve a complete and ordered function. However, when one sub part fails in performance with another, the system will also fail. Sociologists can use this theory or paradigm in doing research such as; cause and effect of many societal breakdowns. A comparison can be that of a football team. The team is the society; the players are only the sub parts of the society. If all team members are pulling their weight and serving the function that they were trained to do, the team will prevail.
