Female Genital Mutilation or FGM is a procedure in which a female has part or all of her genitals removed. There are several variations on this procedure. They involve the cutting or complete removal of the clitoris and labia and even the sowing of the vaginal orifice. This procedure is very old and is common practice in certain cultures. Western society sees this practice as an atrocity that must be stopped. They believe that the procedure holds no medical value and does more harm to the young female patients than good.
