Q:Describe the early Soviet and U.S. perceptions of each other and how such perceptions contributed to the Cold War.
Justification is key when defending one’s self or one’s country. While the United States and the Soviet Union did manage to avoid military action during the Cold War, the perceptions each country had of the other post World War Two greatly contributed to its longevity and the tensions that persisted long after the Cold War ended. The Cold War was characterized by competition and the mutual perceptions of aggression and hostility. While some of their suspicions may be warranted it’s interesting to note the similarities in their accusations concerning each other’s motives.
