The big band era is generally regarded as having occurred between the years of 1935 and 1945. It was the only time in U.S. history that the popularity of Jazz music eclipsed all other forms. Benny Goodman’s performance at the Palomar in Los Angeles in August of 1935 has been referred to as the official start of the Swing era. However, Benny Goodman did not start or conjure up the big band era on his own. Many events, situations and inventions worked together to bring about the start of the Swing era.
