The Basketball Diaries

The Basketball Dairies is not your typical coming-of-age movie. The Basketball Diaries is a gritty film chronicling the adolescent years of poet/writer/rocker Jim Carroll. Jim Carroll is played by Leonardo DiCaprio; Jim Carroll was a star athlete in high school, playing basketball and was likely to head to the NBA after graduation. These plans didn’t quite work out once Jim fell into the cruel world of abusing drugs, and life on the streets. Carroll kept a vivid journal of all his experiences, hence the title of the movie. Throughout the movie, Carroll’s personality is portrayed by his exceptionally rude friends.
