Barometer Rising

Hugh MacLennan novel Barometer Rising takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1917. The war in Europe continues affecting this town. The city is full of foreign sailors and soldiers from everywhere. This novel is very organized so everything comes in chronologic order, it’s very clear and easy to follow and understand. This novel states an extremely important Canadian event, the Halifax explosion to keep it in memory. MacLennan’s wonderful description takes the reader from the beginning to 1917 in Halifax in a very smooth way, he was describing everything in a good manner so the reader doesn’t get bored.
