Emphysema is a major epidemic in today’s society. It ranks fourth in the leading causes of death in the US today. It also ranks 15th among chronic conditions that force people to limit their activities. It is said that nearly two million Americans have emphysema. Emphysema rates highest among men 65 or older, but the condition is rising among women because they have began smoking at a younger age. Scientists have found a lot of treatments for emphysema but there is still one thing that we have yet to find, that is a cure for it.
