J.J. Thomson’s A Defense of Abortion brings to light many logical and justifiable reasons why abortion should be an option for all women. Her most popular argument is that of the violinist, which basically states that a woman’s right to her own body overrides another person’s right to life. Although I am pro-choice and agree with Thomson on all of her arguments, I was able to formulate an idea that could be used to argue against her. Thomson implies that moral obligations must be voluntarily accepted in order to have any moral force; here is an argument against that.
