The Dome of the Rock, Qubbat as-Sakhra is the earliest of example of Arabic architecture in existence today. During the caliphate of Umar bin al-khattab, Jerusalem was under the rule of Islam in 638 CE, but it was not until the reign of the Umayyad (661-749 CE) that Jerusalem became that central point. In Qadem, an Iconographic study by Myriam Rosen-Ayalon, the Umayyad aim was to turn the city to a major focal point and eventually into their capital. The Dome of the Rock was built in the Umayyad period, which was the most beautiful and perfect achievement of Islamic architectures.
