The movie Glory is said to be one of the most accurate portrayals of the treatment of blacks in the Civil War. Not only was our nation divided into North and South, but in the North, there were those who fought for the Union and then those who fought for the freedom of slaves. Many blacks joined forces with the Union soldiers to help their cause but it wasn’t easy for them to be in the army among the whites. The black soldiers wanted to fight but often were not treated as equals by the Union troops. Col. Shaw was at first weary of taking on a black regimen, but towards the end of the movie, he became aware of how capable his men were.
