Eye for an Eye vs Turn the Other Cheak

The two expressions “An Eye for an Eye” and “Turn the Other Cheek” are often thought of as two totally different philosophies when it pertains to the punishment of criminal behavior, when in fact, they are often linked together in the bible. A quote from the bible states “Ye have heard that it hath been said, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:38-39). These two ways of thinking are still under debate in our modern day society.
