“It’s just a domestic”; this is a term often used by police when responding to a call of violence between a husband and a wife. In today’s society marriage is an important unity that most people go above and beyond to preserve. When trying to help a woman who is being abused it is essential to step “outside the box” and understand her reasons for resistance. It seems to be ever to easy to say, “the first time is the last time!” when you have never been abused before. Before attempting to help a woman involved in domestic violence I would make sure I was armed with the understanding of what is like to be abused and why women stay.
