The Crucible , written by Arthur Miller, John Proctor could be seen as a tragic hero throughout the play. A tragic hero is an individual who is a good person, but who has a character flaw, leading to his downfall. John Proctor is an honorable man, he has fatal flaws and his flaws get him hanged.
First of all, John Proctor is an honorable man. He is a sensible farmer who is widely respected throughout the town of Salem. John is a man of strong moral beliefs and is concerned for the safety of his family and their personal welfare.
