When asked to evaluate two pieces or art, both entitled The Last Supper, considerable differences and similarities were found among the two.
The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is a three-dimensional, horizontal composition. The long, horizontal table carries the eye from left to right, or vice-versa, then toward the lighted window in the center, creating one-point perspective. This window also serves as a halo for the head of Jesus. The eyes are then drawn to the very top of the piece due to the lighted arches above the dark ceiling. This creates more spatial depth and balance throughout the work. The Last Supper by Jacopo Tintoretto is a three-dimensional piece as well, composed using diagonal force and atmospheric perspective.
