There are many ways in which prohibition of alcoholic consumption in the United States during the 1920s damaged the very economic and social aspects of American culture that it was designed to heal. When the 18th amendment was implemented, its effects were apparent immediately. The law was created with the hopes of achieving the reduction of alcohol consumption, which would than reduce crime, poverty, death rates, and improve both the economy, and the quality of life for all Americans.
