Giorgio Vasari was a painter, architect and biographer. He was born in Arezzo, Italy, in 1511. He came from a family of potters and during his early years in Arezzo, he worked as a saddle painter. He was a student of Guglielmo da Marcilla.When he showed his talent for drawing, he was sent to Florence at the age of 13 years to continue his studies under Michelangelo, Andrea del Sarto and Baccio Bandinelli. He spent his busy and productive life between Florence and Rome. He worked for the Medici family in Florence and the Farnese family in Rome. His principal paintings are in Florence and Rome, as well as in his own house in Arezzo, which is now a museum.
