The movie Amadeus is about the life of Mozart, as told through the composer Salieri. The movie begins with an opening scene in a lavish 18th-century parlor in Austria: as the servant goes to check on his master, he hears him scream out “forgive me Mozart! Forgive your assassin!” As the servant opens the door, an elderly man is found, by the servant, with his throat slashed. The wound is self-inflicted. The man is the little-known composer Salieri, contemporary and adversary of the now-famed, but once reviled, composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
