In order to begin to manage stress, you must first identify its source. A stress diary is a good start. A study from Southern Methodist University in Dallas found that when people wrote about the stressful situations in their lives for 20 minutes once a week for a month, they experienced a drop in blood pressure and were more able to master techniques on managing stress. (Redbook 2003) By identifying what causes stress, you can then move on to developing effective methods on reducing or eliminating it. With that understanding, the next step is to learn techniques to manage it.
