The four cardinal virtues, also known as fixed values are prudence, justice,
temperance, and fortitude. Cardinal is derived from the Latin word cardo, which means hinge. This then describes the dependence of all moral virtues to the four cardinal virtues. We also need to realize that the four cardinal virtues are referred to morals, because they oversee the way we act, prioritize our desires, and direct our conduct based upon reason and faith. Often these cardinal virtues are paired with the theological virtues.
The four cardinal virtues would benefit society if all people would adhere to them. They would establish the basis for our words and are deeds. People would be less self-centered and more caring about their fellowman. So
