Hamlet has been one Shakespeare’s most famous and debated plays since he wrote it in 1601. The lies, confusion and betrayal that rack the story have been found by many screenwriters to be worthy of movie scripts. One of the people interested in turning this play into a movie was Michael Almereyda. Michael attempted to change the original setting from the Elsinore Castle in Denmark to the even darker and more dismal streets of New York City. His second attempt seemed to bring the entire story of this play into our present century. Unfortunately the problems Almereyda’s movie encounters such as acting, story line or maybe overall lack of lines are somehow able to reduce Shakespeare’s Hamlet into a pitiful B movie.
