In his work On the Origins of War and the Preservation of Peace Donald Kagan states war is not inevitable, however the peace required in preventing wars is not without cost or a straightforward concept for that matter. It is a complex network of elements that must not only be fully understood but fully and aggressively applied. Historically the world has been at war for more years then it has been at peace. After analyzing five cases of war Kagan discerns that the causes of these wars were not only all comparable but preventable had the proper action taken place.
