Researchers estimate that the total number of children nationwide living with at least one gay parent ranges from six to fourteen million a year.1 Being gay or lesbian should not keep you from adopting the child that you have always wanted. I believe that gay and lesbian couples should be treated equally and have just as much right to adopt a child, as straight couples do. There are many states that no longer deny custody or visitation to a person based on sexual orientation.
