I have had some really meaningful experiences while volunteering at Downtown Babies. So far the most memorable experience, the one that impacted me the most was seeing Peanut, otherwise known as Caroline, take her first steps. Caroline has been standing very well for a while and is always trying to grab on to things one after the other doing what I call “imitation walking”. Today though Peanut seemed a little more vibrant and positive in spirits as if she was sort of determined to accomplish something new. So Peanut pulled herself up onto the plastic pretend kitchen over in the corner of the carpet and proceeded to move across the room using the bouncy activity seats and then she saw Miss Jamie in the rocker nearby and looked curiously.
