The Elephant Man is a compelling story of a man who has been handed a difficult life, yet is able to see the positive in everything. He is treated as an outcast from the very beginning of this story. He was put into the circus as a side show. The ringleader of the circus nicknamed him The Elephant Man (his real name was John Maddock) and made up a story of how his body became so distorted. The story was that his mother was stepped on while pregnant and died, but her child lived.
