The article that I chose for my critical analysis is The Sophisticated Farmers of the Deep South. I chose this article because it covers so many aspects of the life of the Natchez. From language to religion, and from war to agriculture, the authors (Oswalt, and Neeley) did a very thorough job. The objective is to provide an explanation of all the different aspects of the life ways and culture of the Natchez so the reader can understand their interactions with the French.
The article starts out by describing the course of the relationship between the Natchez and the French; from contact to takeover. A background of the Natchez is then given to explain how they interacted with French, and finally the fall of the Natchez is wrapped up.
