The original thirteen colonies set the path for centuries to come when they decided to wage a war over their conflicting political beliefs with their mother country Great Britain. They were obviously victorious in this war, then establishing the United States of America. Those colonists died in order to see that their children, and their children's children etc. did not have to suffer under the ruthless monarchy of Great Britain. They died for an independent, democratic nation that still stands strong today. The definition of democracy is government by the people, for the people and of the people.
