A goal can be defined as "attaining a specific standard of proficiency on a task, usually within a specified time limit".
Why use goals? Clearly defined and recorded goals provide the athlete with definable targets and a purpose to their work and motivate a player to greater commitment.
They provide a personalised challenge to the player, a guide to improved performance and they minimise the chance of the player being distracted in his training and practice. Goals can become a personalised performance contract and provide a personalised and recognisable challenge.
