Samuel Pepys was born on February 23rd 1633. He was the son of a tailor and was surrounded by ten brothers and sisters. From the fifteenth century on the Pepys have held land, they were country folk. In 1642 Samuel had to go to Huntingdonshire were he had to live with his uncle, Robert Pepys. Samuel went to school at Huntingdon together with Oliver Cromwell and Edward Mountagu. Edward Mountagu was the young squire of Hinchingbrooke, he inherited the Hinchingbrook estate from his father in 1644. When the civil war ended Samuel Pepys returned to London and he entered St. Paul's School. Afterwards Pepys attended the Magdalene College Cambridge, where nowadays his diary is
